A two-storey yellow-brick factory at Dundas Street East and Ontario Street, built in the 1940s for the Imperial Optical lens works and converted to 41 lofts in 2000.
Overview & history
The building went up in the 1940s as a lens factory for Imperial Optical, a Toronto optical manufacturer founded in 1900. Century Lofts Developments converted it to live/work lofts in 2000. The exterior is yellow brick with industrial windows and Art Deco detailing; concrete mushroom-cap columns and terrazzo floors survive inside.
There are 41 units on two floors, studios through two-bedrooms, running roughly 435 to 1,300 square feet with ceilings around 11 feet. Some ground-floor units have direct street access.
